I love this frame. I know that you rarely see parents posting pictures of their child crying, or really doing anything but cooing or smiling there is just something about this that just hits me. That is the way it goes with me and photography though I always go after something a little different and love anything that does not quite fit the mold.

Rodney Smith’s photography reminds me of the wonderful cinematography in the Robin Williams film Toys. His wonderful use of movement and black and white are astounding. He clearly puts a lot of effort in to creating stunning images and is another photographer that is not out there kicking out quantity. He just makes great images.
The other day I was preparing to speak with a rep on the phone and I was expecting him to ask me about other photographers who inspire me. Now I am not someone who tries to emulate another photographer or go out and copy what I have seen but there are some photographers bodies of work that are just amazing and it really helps me feel a connection with where I am trying to go. This link goes to the website dedicated to a documentary about this amazing architectural photographer. The amount of information and detail in his images is stunning. He will go to a job, shoot 11 images in a day and be done. This is a huge inspiration especially in this digital age where many photographers just hold the shutter down all day and come away with 10,000 images and then edit and crop in PS. He is one of the only architectural photographers who puts people in his images and it brings life and a feeling of useful space to the images that you just don’t see in any other work. Also how can you not love large format photography?

I would easily call him my favorite street photographer. His images capture the uniqueness needed to shoot street. I love to see work where the photographer is able to elicit true feeling and reaction from his subjects.
Well I was working on branding for LP while I decided I was hungry and needed some lunch. I went down stairs grabbed a pomegranate and brought it back upstairs to watch Community on Hulu.com aside(that show is great by the way Abed is easily the best comedian working in a sitcom today.) While I was watching I took my time peeling the fruit. Half way through I got sick of peeling it and set it and my paper towel to the side, and got back to work on figuring out just how I should brand this beast and how I might get better than a 2% response rate to my first promo piece. After a while I looked over at the pomegranate and the light on it was amazing, just coming in from the window.

Is that what it is all about? With my photography that is what I am doing. I am connection with my subject be it model, building, or tree. I am connecting with it in an personal way that I hope carries through to the viewer in such a way that the image grabs them. So much so in fact that my imagery controls you and forces you to look at it and connect with it and hopefully me while you are viewing my work. This it what I am going for.. What do you think? I have been thinking about this for a while now… Actually since giving an interview for a project I shot for the ACLU. It is about my style and how I shoot and what I want to see from it. I have a hard time describing it or even putting it to words but I think the best way is to say I want to create real images. Meaning that I am trying to get real emotion, expressions, faces, looks, and movement. This causes me to do very little editing to all of my work and to try and shoot film whenever possible it also causes me to interact with my subjects in a different way and form a connection so that we can move away from posing for the camera and instead shoot real moments that happen on the shoot. Whether I am shooting with a model or someone who has never participated in a professional shoot before.

I always find it hard to put up a new site as it is always so much work and so far I always feel like I am starting from scratch. Getting rid of the old site is hard as well because I feel like I put so much work into it and then I have to do it all over again just to put up the new one. I am hoping that this site has a little more longevity and helps to bring more people through the door.
