The other day I was preparing to speak with a rep on the phone and I was expecting him to ask me about other photographers who inspire me. Now I am not someone who tries to emulate another photographer or go out and copy what I have seen but there are some photographers bodies of work that are just amazing and it really helps me feel a connection with where I am trying to go. Here are just a few:
Julius Shulman
This link goes to the website dedicated to a documentary about this amazing architectural photographer. The amount of information and detail in his images is stunning. He will go to a job, shoot 11 images in a day and be done. This is a huge inspiration especially in this digital age where many photographers just hold the shutter down all day and come away with 10,000 images and then edit and crop in PS. He is one of the only architectural photographers who puts people in his images and it brings life and a feeling of useful space to the images that you just don’t see in any other work. Also how can you not love large format photography?
Just two for today lest I get to crazy and you loose interest..
Elliott Erwitt
I would easily call him my favorite street photographer. His images capture the uniqueness needed to shoot street. I love to see work where the photographer is able to elicit true feeling and reaction from his subjects.
